Class Descriptions
Mini Jiggers
This class is designed for our littlest dancers, ages 3-5 years old. Dancers will learn basic Irish dance movements set to traditional Irish music and work on balance, movement, turnout, listening skills, and following directions in a fun yet structured environment.
 
Beginner I
This class is for individuals just starting out in Irish dance. Dancers will learn basic soft shoe dances and choreography and improve timing, balance, and coordination. All dancers must start in the Beginner I class unless instructed otherwise by Erin.
 
Beginner II
This class is for those dancers who have successfully completed the Beginner I class and are ready to move on to hard shoe dances. This class will continue improvement on basic Irish dance steps and add a few more challenging movements. Dancers will learn both soft shoe and hard shoe steps in this class.
 
Novice I
This class is for dancers who have successfully completed the Beginner II class and are ready to move on to more challenging steps. Dancers are expected to practice regularly at home so that class time may be utilized for learning new steps and choreography and improving technique.
 
Novice II
This class is for dancers who have successfully completed the Novice I class and are ready to move on to more challenging steps. Dancers are expected to practice regularly at home so that class time may be utilized for learning new steps and choreography and improving technique.
 
Open I & II
This class is for dancers who have successfully completed the Novice II class and are working toward participating in majors and preparing for Preliminary and Open Championships. Regular at-home practice is required for dancers to participate in this class.
 
Preliminary / Open Championships
This class is designed for the most advanced dancers. You must have approval from Erin to sign up for this class. Regular at-home practice is required for dancers to participate in this class.
 
Introduction to Irish Dance
This 4- to 6-week class is designed to allow individuals with limited schedules to try Irish dance. Dancers learn the basic movements of Irish dance set to traditional Irish music in a fun yet structured environment.
 
Drills
This class focuses on new steps and tricks we are working on in our regular weekly solo classes in a more concentrated manner. Steps are broken down and drilled thoroughly. Strengthening exercises and stretching also are included in this class. Dancers who attend this class learn steps quicker and tend to perform better in competitions and performances.
 
Performance Class
This class focuses on performance choreography. Dancers must attend weekly solo classes and know their steps adequately in order to participate in this class. Dancers will work on level-appropriate performance routines including ceili, traditional set dances, treble reels, etc. Beginner II through Novice dancers will learn our signature routines for shows as well as work on 2-, 3-, and 4-hands for feises. Open through Champ dancers will work on some of our classics while having the opportunity to collaborate on new pieces as well.
 
Strengthening / Conditioning
In this class, you will perform strength and conditioning exercises to address key muscle groups needed for dancing to improve turnout, posture/core strength, leg strength to improve straight legs for beautiful kicks, and ankle strength and balance to improve the ability to hold sustained releve. The purpose of this class is to prevent injuries, improve strength and flexibility to refine dance technique, and have fun while doing it. All ages are welcomed and modification will be given for all fitness levels. You DO NOT need to be a dancer to participate in this class. All are welcome! Taught by Teri Proper, B.S., P.T.A.
