Teri Proper, B.S., P.T.A.
Teri Proper is a dance medicine/performance arts specialist and physical therapist assistant with a secondary degree in exercise science. She teaches a strength & conditioning class for the Quinn School of Irish Dance.

She has a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Western Michigan University and a physical therapist assistant degree Kellogg Community College. She has been working as a physical therapist assistant since 2001, and currently is pursuing her dance medicine certification from New York University's Harkness School of Dance.

Over the past 14 years she has taught several dance medicine workshops on injury prevention, strength, and conditioning to local dance companies and the Western Michigan University dance team. She has taught at the Patti Herm School of Dance in Plainwell, Mich., and worked as a personal trainer at West Hills Athletic Club. As a physical therapist assistant, she sees patients ranging in age and experience from young beginners to professional company dancers in the Grand Rapids Ballet. She has worked with athletes and performing artists from drama, dance, cheer, ice skating, and gymnastics—areas where she said there was a huge void in physical therapy when she got started in the business.

"These are athletes without anyone to help them rise above others physically, perform better, be better, and be less injured," she said. "I stepped in and am able to provide just that—personal trainer meets the dancer, strength and conditioning for the dancer with injury prevention at the core.

"Daily, I see patients with dance injuries and have the opportunity to rehabilitate them back to non-injury statea and get the wonderful benefit of seeing their excitement as they take the stage for the first time, post-injury."
